Dave King: Rangers chairman to stand down from Ibrox role next year

Dave King is to leave his role as Rangers chairman having announced his intention to stand down in the new year.

King, who has led the club since 2015, was close to tears as he confirmed his plans during the club’s AGM on Tuesday morning.

The Glasgow-born businessman first became involved with Rangers 19 years ago, joining the Ibrox outfit as a non-executive director.

King said during the AGM: “The crisis is behind them and now this is my final AGM I would not step down if the club needed me.

“It’s been a privilege.”

More follows.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Former Manchester United forward appears to confirm Hammarby transfer… despite rivals Malmo building a statue dedicated to striker

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has appeared to confirm which club he is joining in an Instagram post uploaded on Tuesday morning.

Ibrahimovic, the legendary forward, left LA Galaxy at the end of the MLS season with a return to Europe mooted, and talks were said to have taken place with his former club Milan.

England was also considered a possible destination, though Jose Mourinho ruled out a Spurs move for the 38-year-old earlier this week.

And Zlatan appears to have revealed his shock new club in a social media post.

On Tuesday morning, the former Man United forward uploaded an Instagram post showing his name on the back of a Hammarby shirt.

Swedish outfit Hammarby, who are part owned by the same conglomerate who own LA Galaxy, have not confirmed the signing of Ibrahimovic, with their press officer admitting surprise at the deal to Svenska Dagbladet.

Nonetheless, the announcement has caused surprise in Sweden due to Zlatan’s association with Hammarby’s rivals Malmo.

The striker was born in the coastal city and began his career with their football club, who honoured Zlatan earlier this year with an 8.9ft statue outside their stadium.

But now it appears Zlatan has signed for Hammarby, where he will hope to win the Allsvenskan title which eluded him during his days with Malmo.
