West Ham complete last-gasp deadline day signing of Jarrod Bowen from Hull City for £22m

West Ham have signed Jarrod Bowen from Hull City in a deal that went right to the wire on transfer deadline day.

The forward was believed to be having his medical at the London club on Friday lunchtime, but had to thrash out personal terms before the move was completed.

Crystal Palace had looked like they were in pole position to sign the 23-year-old but it was the Hammers who landed their man.

Newcastle were also believed to have made a late move to prise the player away from the KCOM Stadium.

Bowen has scored 16 goals in the Championship this season and is one of the most highly-rated players outside the top flight.

The signing will be a good boost for David Moyes as he looks to keep his side in the Premier League.

They are perilously close to the drop zone with just goal difference keeping them ahead of Bournemouth and Watford in 18th and 19th place respectively.

West Ham face Brighton on Saturday at the London Stadium in an important relegation clash.

Harvey Elliott goal: Liverpool wonderkid scores brilliant bicycle kick for Reds’ Under-23 side

Harvey Elliott may have scored Liverpool’s goal of the season on Wednesday night.

The superb teenager, who is tipped to be a star of the future and has already played six times for Jurgen Klopp’s first-team, struck with a beautiful bicycle kick while playing for the Reds’ Under-23 side.

Neil Critchley’s team were losing 2-0 at Wolves before Joe Hardy – a January signing from Brentford B – pulled one back, with Elliott then popping up to grab the equaliser.

And it was a truly sunning equaliser, with the 16-year-old English starlet connecting perfectly with a corner to fire the ball into the back of the net.

Neither Wolves nor Liverpool managed to find a further breakthrough so Elliott’s goal remained the final of the 2-2 draw.

“It was an unbelievable goal,” said Under-23s boss Critchley. “I’m not sure how he did that if I’m honest with you.

“It was worth coming just for that goal alone tonight. It was a terrific piece of skill.”

Elliott is one of the brightest talents in the English game and became the youngest ever Premier League player last May when introduced during Fulham’s defeat at Wolves.

He left the Cottagers two months later to join Liverpool and has so far played in the league, Carabao Cup and FA Cup for the Reds.

He is expected to start the FA Cup fourth-round replay vs Shrewsbury next month as a youthful Liverpool team managed by Critchley will take on the League One side, with Klopp and his senior players taking a fortnight off for the Premier League winter break.
