“I’m so pleased I can join the club,” Ki said on the Newcastle’s official website. “I was always pleasantly surprised when I came to St James’ Park to play against Newcastle – there is a great atmosphere and the passion from the fans is a great support to the players.
“Everyone knows how big this club is so I’m really looking forward to playing with my teammates and for the fans.”
Newcastle announced the move on Friday, with the midfielder following Martin Dubravka into St James’ Park this summer.
“I’m pleased to welcome Ki to the club. He is a player with lots of Premier League and international experience and it was an easy decision to bring him here,” United boss Rafael Benitez said.
“He is the captain of his country, a good character and he will be a good addition to the squad.”
Ki started out with FC Seoul but is well known to British fans, having joined Celtic in 2009.
He spent three seasons with the Bhoys before starting a six-year spell with Swansea that was punctuated only by his loan spell at Sunderland in 2013/14.
Although there have been a few setbacks in the construction of Tottenham’s new stadium, the £1billion project is gradually coming along.
Reports of an embarrassing building mistake which saw the club needing to replace thousands of seats has not dampened the spirits of anyone at the club as Spurs are still targeting completion of their new ground by the time Liverpool visit in the Premier League on September 15.
And the club released a number of new pictures on its official Twitter account to reveal how much the new stadium is progressing inside and out.

Wayne Rooney confirmed his move to DC United on Thursday after leaving Everton.
The striker signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with his new Major League Soccer club and they announced the move with the following video.

This was not the first time Rooney’s ‘acting’ has been put to the test during his football career.
Rooney became a new superhero in this astonishing promo piece ahead of the release of X-Men Apocalypse in 2016.
The iconic Rooney ad. Wayne sees his career take two very different paths as part of Nike’s pre-World Cup film in 2010.
Wazza is only in this team effort for a few seconds, but instantly steals the show.
Back at a time when Rooney could afford to recklessly shave his hair, he did so for a Nike advert.
This is less of an original idea now that ‘footgolf’ is increasing in popularity, though it does include a cameo from the Brazilian Ronaldo.
No words needed from the young United man.
What’s better than one acting Rooney? TWO acting Rooneys of course.
Yet another Manchester United film trailer, thankfully for Wayne, he doesn’t shoulder all of the embarrassment this time.
What can you say about this masterpiece? Watch it and you will be lost for words.
When David Ornstein tweets about Arsenal, the supporters listen and then reply to him with brilliant memes.
His latest bit of club gossip was about Calum Chambers signing a new contract.
This is obviously great news, but the fact Arsenal fans heard it first from the BBC Sport correspondent meant they could pay tribute to the ‘meme lord’ in their own way. Remember when he tweeted news of Bernd Leno’s arrival?
Chambers has been an Arsenal player since 2014 when the club paid Southampton £16million for him. He spent the 2016/17 season on loan Middlesbrough, but new manager Unai Emery has seen enough potential in the 23-year-old to want to keep him at the club. Arsenal have already snapped up Leno and Stephan Lichtsteiner, while they have also been linked with Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
However, like many people on Twitter, talkSPORT.com was only there for the memes, which you can see a selection of below.
