Liverpool's renaissance in the transfer market is a prime driver of their Premier League title challenge

LIVERPOOL, England -- Believe it or not, there can be certain drawbacks to having sustained success in the transfer market. Liverpool's revamped approach and methodology to recruitment in recent years has the team well-placed to end its 28-year wait for a league title this season. But in doing so, sources have told ESPN FC that when Liverpool come calling for a player the selling club can often hesitate, wondering whether their valuation of their player will quickly be perceived as a bargain...

Manchester United 4-1 AFC Bournemouth: Paul Pogba brace helps Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continue 100 per cent winning record

A wonderful all round performance by Paul Pogba helped Manchester United win three on the bounce, sweeping aside Bournemouth 4-1 at Old Trafford.

The midfielder’s brace put the Red Devils 2-0 up after brilliant work from Marcus Rashford for the first one, and Ander Herrera’s inch-perfect cross for the second.

Rashford then made it three before Nathan Ake pulled a goal back.

But substitute Romelu Lukaku put more gloss on the scoreline after the break which also saw Eric Bailly sent off for a rash challenge on Ryan Fraser as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s honeymoon period as caretaker boss goes on.

Southampton 1-3 Manchester City: Citizens go second in Premier League with vital win over Saints

Manchester City put an end to their barren run of two straight defeats after securing a 3-1 win over Southampton at St Mary’s.

A much-improved performance from Pep Guardiola’s men saw them take an early lead with David Silva’s strike but Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg levelled the game after taking advantage of Oleksandr Zinchenko’s error.

However, City restored their lead when James Ward-Prowse turned Raheem Sterling’s cross into his own net and Sergio Aguero’s downward header on the stroke of half-time effectively wrapped things up.

Hojbjerg was sent off for a terrible tackle on Fernandinho on 85 minutes but the Brazilian was unscathed as City moved back up to second – seven points behind leaders Liverpool ahead of the top two’s colossal clash at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday night.
