Premier League transfer news: Crystal Palace clinch five-year deal for QPR playmaker Ebere Eze

Ebere Eze has joined Crystal Palace from QPR on a five-year deal, the Premier League side have announced.

The Eagles had two bids rejected for the 22-year-old playmaker, before finally striking a deal worth in excess of £19.5million on Tuesday night.

The transfer ends Palace’s two-year pursuit of the Greenwich-born forward, who scored 14 goals and contributed eight assists for the Rs in the 2019/20 campaign.

“Eberechi is a player whose development we have followed closely,” Steve Parish, Crystal Palace’s chairman, said.
“We are delighted he has chosen to sign for us over the other clubs that were interested and we feel that this is the right club for him to continue his development.”

Such is the belief the Eagles have in Eze, they have already taken up the one-year extension option stipulated into his contract.

Eze also attracted interest from Fulham, West Ham and Newcastle, while West Brom made a last-ditch attempt to sign the tricky playmaker at the start of the week.

QPR have negotiated a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of the deal. Eze joined QPR in 2016 after being released by Millwall.

He has been a revelation at Loftus Road and was voted the club’s Player of the year last season.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, Eze’s new Palace teammate Andros Townsend expressed his delight at the news:

“I’ve seen a lot of clips of him that the QPR media team have posted [on Twitter] and he looks some player.

“He’s a very decent prospect for the future. He’s a very skilful player and direct. He will definitely give us that freshness we need in attack.

“It’s no secret we didn’t score enough goals last season and we didn’t create enough, so he could give us another dimension and help us get on the scoresheet more frequently. It’s definitely another option for us.”

“Hopefully he can make me a better player and hopefully I can help him and make him a better player as well. I hope the move works out well for Crystal Palace in general.”
